FRT rifle stance: recoil control for forced reset triggers

Key points: FRT rifle stance recoil

  • Tune the rifle before you touch your stance — an untuned FRT is roughly two to three times harder to control, violent enough that you cannot track the sights, and no body position rescues it.
  • The stance is a thrown punch: step the lead foot forward, bend that knee, and carry most of your weight on the front leg rather than squaring up to the target.
  • Run the support hand as far out on the handguard as you can reach with the thumb wrapped over the top — that is what holds the muzzle down.
  • Squaring up and leaning forward at the waist is the near-universal first-timer error and it throws the shooter straight back; the heavier the caliber, the more weight has to sit on the front leg.
  • Brace the core: a loose midsection gets pushed backward, while a locked one lets the whole body absorb the gun instead of the arms fighting it.
  • Overstepping is its own failure — too much distance between the feet leaves no room to lean in, so widen the base left to right and find the depth where you can still drive forward.
  • Competition pistol stances work for movement but collapse under an FRT, and the session's floor was plain safety: stock on the rifle, everything on paper, nothing over the berm.

About this Tactics and Training video

FRT rifle stance and recoil control, coached live across three guns: a 9mm MP5, a 5.56 carbine and an HK 308. Juicey Media walks a newer forced reset trigger shooter out of the squared-up forward lean that throws people backward, and into a boxer's stance — lead foot stepped forward, knee bent, weight driven into the front leg, support hand run all the way out with the thumb wrapped over, core braced. The stated prerequisite for any of it is a properly tuned rifle: an untuned FRT runs two to three times harder to control, and no stance fixes that.
